Preservation No. 058: Pyrops gungii
$295.99 USD
Description

Pyrops gungii is a one-of-a-kind natural specimen, encased in a beautifully crafted ornate gold frame from the early 19th century. This rare blue-green fulgorid from Indonesia is adorned with vibrant colors, adding to its exquisite appearance. Lanternflies belong to the Fulgoridae family and are commonly known as planthoppers. Unlike most insects, they rely on jumping and gliding instead of flying, using their two sets of wings. While their natural habitat is limited to Southeast Asia and Central/South America, one species was unintentionally introduced to the United States in 2014.

Each artwork is accompanied with a certificate of authentication and signed by the artist.
